When I first started out trying to make a website that would get lots of traffic, I really had no idea what I was doing.

Targeted website traffic wasn’t even part of my thinking.  I just wanted to get anyone coming to my website.  I knew nothing about keywords.  I didn’t know how to choose the best ones (I didn’t even know I had to choose the best ones).

I kept trying one scheme after another, and finally I realized the main reason I couldn’t get anyone to my site or program was because I didn’t know how to get them to my website, targeted or untargeted.

One of the first things I tried was Google Adwords.  There is no doubt that Google Adwords is a great source of targeted website traffic – but only if you know what you are doing.  I tried it.  I didn’t know what I was doing.  What little cash I had went straight down the drain.

I then paid a service to do it for me.  They kept bidding on expensive keywords, and had no strategy to target lower cost keywords.  The result, of course, was that I was going broke.  Well, I was already broke.  So now I was in the hole!

Regardless of the financial pain, I was and still am, fully committed to developing my online business to the maximum potential.  The difference now is that I have learned from my mistakes.  I have traffic.  It’s targeted traffic and visitors.  And it doesn’t come from Google Adwords.

I had to recover from my loses, and that meant learning how to use the built in qualities of a blog, and how to maximize my efforts for the search engines and other resources that didn’t have the risk or potential to waste tons of cash and tons of time.
