Get Traffic to Your Site – 1 Devastating Mistake…
Are you your worst enemy when trying to get traffic to your site? Most webmasters are, and if you are new, you most likely have created hidden problems that make it impossible to increase online traffic… or even get targeted traffic at all.
I’m definitely guilty of this, and this single mistake got me tons of traffic and no conversions. Ever have this happen? You can tell me about it below.
Have you got to the point where you can optimize a website for a high traffic, low competition keyword, and get highly ranked, but the result was nothing but tons of targeted traffic and no conversions? I know I have, and it was really frustrating for me. I had to start all over with a new keyword to find some buyers.
It kinda goes like this, you are sure you have a very solid product, and the copy on your page was really better than average. Your keyword phrase is getting you lots of hits, but the problem is that the phrase you chose has no solid commercial intent…
… It’s not a buyer keyword or keyword phrase!
So you got traffic to your site, you saw a big increase in online traffic, but you got no sales. I was quite set back when this happened to me.
Dan Thies at StomperNet teaches a lot about commercial intent and keywords that buyers use. He uses PPC (pay per click) to help him figure this out. More on that in a moment.
Dan Thies’ counterpart at StomperNet, Dave Bullock, has noted that likely more than 85% of keywords and phrases that marketers research and then use in their copy fail to convert. They both agree that there is a very simple way to avoid this devastating mistake.
TEST! Their conclusion is that despite all the data you are presented in keyword tools, including their own, you don’t really know anything until you test a keyword or phrase and see if it really converts on your site.
So don’t fear, you don’t have to test for weeks or month to make this happen. To be perfectly blunt, don’t be stupid, you haven’t got that much time.
The easy way to test is to set up a PPC campaign for your keyword and point the ad to your landing page or website. It really is that simple. If the keyword converts, then it is the right keyword for you to use to optimize your web page.
I’m sure you understand that it is better to use a keyword that only brings 100 people a month but sells to 20, than to use a keyword that brings 1,000 visitors and sells to none. That’s not rocket science. So remember, you aren’t focused on volume, you are focused on conversion (profit).
Hope that helps point you in the right direction. Bottom line, don’t randomly choose keywords or phrases just because you think they should work.

This is very true. There are so many people who are too focused on search volume rather than the keyword’s ability to convert, and I keep telling them this but they won’t listen.
