Remember from the previous post, that before you accept any link, you should check the cached data.  If the page hasn’t been updated recently, then skip.  Go on to the next.

Now that you have a bunch of links, did you know that backlinks can be a harmful spam source to your website?

In your endless effort to get more targeted traffic to your website, you really don’t need to be blown out of the water by spam backlinks.  Here is a warning from the folks at Stompernet regarding backlink spam…

“With malware infections becoming more and more common online these days, sites and blogs are being “compromised” without the Webmaster even knowing it. Typically, the Spammer will place dozens, hundreds, or even thousands and links “hidden” in the code to their Viagra, Casino, Porn, etc. sites.”

The good news is, there is an easy way to check if you have been hacked by the scum bags.  You can do it with a simple Google search…

Google has a search command called the “site” command.  It allows you to see the indexed pages and links in your website.  So just type something like this example:

site:exampledomain.com casino

The results will show if you have been hacked.  If you get a couple hundred pages returned in the results, and you aren’t doing anything related to casinos, then you have been hacked – most likely.

You should also run the same check for words like cialis, viagra, porn, nude, naked, etc.  You know, the type of sites most likely to try to hack you.

Then you may have to go through the tedious effort of reporting the spam and deleting the spam pages or links.

Please note, that blogs are the most common target for this type of back link hacking.  They want your targeted traffic.  These scum bags will do anything to get it, and blogs are real traffic generators.

But don’t be discouraged.  Remember, it doesn’t matter what business your in, there are always maggots looking for ways to tear you up.  You just need to know about them to stop them.
