I was just sitting here doing some research, looking for the latest and hottest topics when I was at Pat Marcello’s blog, “The SEO News Blog” and found a most unnerving story.
Though this doesn’t affect me immediately, it can and will affect me soon, I know.
This breaking change to how you can process charges for your products is BIG. Not only because it can affect your direct sales..
… but also because you potentially could lose sales from an affiliate product that was bringing you a substantial income if the product owner is using the “banned” forced continuity.
Master Card and Visa just put the hammer down on “forced continuity” sales. In a nutshell, they are saying that if you are doing things like giving free trials, then starting payments later, you can’t take the payments with a MasterCard or Visa!
Wow! That’s big, and I know a lot of online merchants and marketers are going to have to rethink their offer. Some may have already go shut down.
Bottom line is, that because a handful of marketers have hidden the forced continuity charges behind things like free shipping, or consumers just didn’t bother to read the BIG BOLD print that told them they were going to be billed in the future, everyone has to pay!
So as Pat Marcello pointed out (you can see her post on Mastercard here) here are a few things that take an immediate hit:
Upsells or Downsells that are not on your own payment processor
Sending a product “Free” – just pay shipping and handling
Multiple merchant accounts on a single product
I’m sure this will affect more things. Here is a video below by internet marketer Ryan Lee covering the blast in more detail…

P.S. Don’t let this stop you from building your own business. We’ll just have to think a little differently. Honest, ethical success can’t be stopped!
What are your thoughts on this?….
