1 Little Secret to Success
I spent some time yesterday going through my blog traffic logs and looking at the websites that have been spamming me. It sounds like a weird thing to do, but any blogger knows as you get more and more traffic, you get more and more spammers.
I do things like — when I find a site that is spoofing or stealing a legitimate business site, I look up the spoofer, I get the contact info of the real site, and I send an email to the real site owner to let them know about it.
Why do this?
I’m trying to build a legitimate, helpful, useful business. If someone was doing this to me, I would hope the person who discovers it would tell me. It’s one of the many reasons I put my real name, and real contact info on every website I create.
The reasons for all of this go much deeper than this. Since it is my Sunday ranting time, here is just a little more on why this is all very important to me, and why it should be important to you…
Why I’m in Business
You see, I have a lot of goals to achieve, and the overarching one is something that I was able to do in the Navy, and want to carry on in the private sector.
I, along with my business partner, want to provide opportunity for as many people as possible.
That’s pretty broad, but not unrealistic — and it is why this blog exists, and why I created TrafficStarterPro.
I have many specific things to accomplish in the remaining time on earth, among them:
- Be a major contributor to building a new church for my fellow attendees. You see, my church trains mentally disabled, and homeless that want to learn how to get jobs and be self-reliant and productive. So I need to be a big part of that.
- There are many people trying to make real businesses that have real missions to help people. I need to be able to help them too.
- There are many military veteran’s, disabled or not, that want to find ways to contribute after their military life ends, and I need to be part of that.
No one, rich or poor, has more right to succeed than another. Those who believe they have more right, ultimately fail because of greed or lack of any real connection for doing whatever business they are doing.
What’s my connection?
I grew up in a large family. We barely had money for food and the small duplex house we lived in. My room was in the basement. My father pounded into me that I needed to go to college. He never mentioned the fact that he didn’t have any money to pay for it. He taught me independence and positive thinking without really trying to teach me.
I made good grades, and earned a scholarship, and off to college I went. I nearly lost that scholarship by failing miserably my first semester of college. It was a battle the rest of my college days.
Then it was off to flight school after commissioning in the Navy. When I got there, the flight surgeon yelled at me for being there. He ranted about how I wasn’t supposed to be there, and proceeded make me feel like scum. I stuck with the program though, and overcame the flight surgeon.
Then I had a real tough time with the flight program. I nearly was kicked out. I had a review board that would decide if I could stay. They gave me (what I realized latter was a challenge) a question to stake my future in flying on. I was asked, “Will you bet your career in flying on whether or not you answer the next question correctly?”
Now I was just 22 years old, so that was a big question. I took the challenge and I really don’t know that I answered it correctly, they just wanted to see how committed I was to succeeding.
I made it, and ultimately was very successful in Naval aviation, including having command of a squadron flying in combat from aircraft carriers.
What Could Be More Challenging?
During my career, I married a woman that was determined to ruin me. I was stupid and blind. I kept ignoring the facts. Personal emotions controlled me, and it got to the point that I was being attacked regularly, bogus reports were being made about me, and – in fact – she had bought a gun and was threatening to kill me.
On top of that, she spent every dime I made on drugs, alcohol (it’s a drug too), and anything else she wanted. In the end, I lost every possession I had, including my home, my furniture, and personal life as I knew it. But I went on to command a squadron and did not let this failure define me as a failure.
I was – and I didn’t know it — depressed the rest of my Naval career. But I thrived on the job through the immense satisfaction I got by helping young sailors and officers succeed. Some thought I was harsh, but I wanted them to have a fierce determination to thrive.
It didn’t solve my depression though, because I never knew I was depressed.
It Happened Again
So in the end of my career, I lost everything again. This time, there would be no income to lean on, no one to help. I lost a second wife, a home, a career, and all my possessions, and had nothing left but a box, a suitcase, and a plan.
Oh yes, I was massively depressed now. My weight went from 200 lbs (I’m 6’2″ tall) to 155 lbs. Can you imagine? But I still had one thing – my will. As long as I could take control of my will, and move forward one step at a time, I could get back to reality and achieve my goals above.
I had a wonderful psychologists who helped immensely. I had no family. Only one of my 6 brothers and sisters even speaks to me. The rest treat me like a rat in garbage. They won’t give the time of day, much less even a piece of their garbage.
I had no home, no money, no credit, no possessions… only my will to achieve and create success for others.
I met my business partner, Danny Gonzalez, who was in similar arrears — but I knew his will and determination were as strong as mine. So off we went, and here I am today, giving you all these rantings.
What’s it All Mean?
It means I’m proud of who I am because I am doing honest work, creating honest products that are really helpful. I know that I am presenting only real products with real value to you if you have determination to put them to work for you.
It means that if you want to succeed, you must develop your will first, along with your faith, and determination.
If you don’t have any sincere goal of betterment anywhere, your business is going to fail. You see, people can tell in what you say, and what you present, if you have any goal beyond just making a stash for yourself and hibernating.
You think they can’t tell?
You’re wrong! They can. It’s only a matter of time. Part of your business being a living and breathing success is offering something that makes others better in the ways they are searching for. If you have no real emotional connection with this, then…
… even if you make some cash upfront, you will be “figured out” by your audience, and you will crash.
So there’s a lot you can do with the rantings I just wrote, but I’m going to leave it up to you to figure it out.
I would love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment below. … but here’s the trick…
… if you don’t mention my name or something about the article, then your comment will be deleted as spam, because you are wasting my time.
To your success
