Great to be back today. I have received several reader requests over the past several weeks wanting to know about the light box opt-in box on my blog that you see when you exit.
I had not written about it because it is not really something that gets you an increase in blog traffic. In fact, it is something that allows you to capture blog traffic only after they have been to your site.
Of course, this is important. After getting traffic to your blog, you need to be able to build your list to interact with your readers effectively, and hopefully, profitably. So I gave into Julie’s request to go ahead and tell you a little more.
The plug-in has a free version and a paid version. I admit, I am using the paid version. But I have used both. There is almost no way for a blog reader to know the difference. So really, all you need is the free version of Optinpop Plugin.
But you can’t get it in the WordPress plugins, so I will show you in a moment where to get it.
You can see in the image to the left all the features of the free plugin.
Optinpop is very easy to install. It installs like any plugin. In fact, when you download it, all you have to do is go to your WordPress dashboard and select “Plugins” from the left menu, and “Add new.”
Then you go to where it says “Install a plugin in .zip format,” browse button to find the Optinpop .zip file where ever you saved it on your computer, and then click install. Easy, and fast.
After that, it is as simple as typing in the url you want your visitors to see. You can tell it with a mouse click, where to appear on your screen, whether or not to use a lightbox, how much delay, and how often it is seen.
So you really don’t need the paid version to be effective. But I will tell you the difference so you don’t feel like your n the dark.
The paid version has a feature that allows you to rotate the lightbox your visitors see. It makes it so you can set up to 10 different urls for your visitors. So returning visitors don’t see the same thing every time they come back.
This feature can be set to random for all visitors, or to rotate specifically for each visitor.
You also get the choice of lightbox color, and the option to show it on different blog pages, like all pages, just on posts, only on single posts, only on blog pages, on category pages, or on the front page only. And you can select any combination of these.
So, that is a lot of razzle dazzle that make Optinpop really snazzy and the rotating url really can improve your opt ins. But you don’t need the paid version to get the lightbox capability and choice of offer to present. You really only need the free version of Optinpop.
So thanks, Julie, for sending yet another request for more on the Optinpop. I hope this answers the questions.

Be sure to let me know what you think. Do you like the way the Optinpop works? Do you have other ideas about how to capture your blog traffic for your list?

P.S. When you download the free optinpop plug in, you will be shown a one time offer. This is where you get the paid version. If you don’t get it when you download the free version, it is extremely difficult to get access to the paid version later. Just wanted to make sure you knew that.
